    When the eye does not close completely, there are chances of the eye getting dry which can lead to redness, watering and irritation. Hence immediate consultation with an oculoplastic surgeon is advisable.

    Yes. When the black portion (cornea) is exposed it can lead to ulcer formation, infection and decrease or loss of vision.

    Copious lubricating drops and gels are needed to keep the eye moist. If there is danger of loss of vision, surgery is needed.

    If there is a scar or contracture, scar revision or skin graft maybe needed. If it is due to facial palsy, eye closure can be improved by gold weights placed inside the upper eyelid, or raising lower eyelid with the help of grafts ,tightening the outer corner of the eye or loosening the muscle that lifts the eyelid. These are all done keeping cosmesis in mind and they give aesthetically acceptable results.

    OnabotulinumtoxinA injection can be used to temporarily close the eye to protect the eye till natural recovery takes place. It lasts for 3-6 months.

    Filler injections can also be used which last for 15 months but a lump might be visible on the outer side of eyelid in some cases.

    Skin grafts and eyelid procedures take 6weeks to heal. The sutures are generally removed after 7-10 days. The skin graft will take 3-6 months to achieve the appropriate pigmentation and texture as the surrounding skin.
